NATIONAL CHICKEN WING DAY: SWEET ORANGE CHILI WINGS

Easy, baked Sweet Orange Chili Chicken Wings are citrusy with a spicy kick.

Did you know that today is National Chicken Wings Day?!? I love a good chicken wing. These citrus-y and spicy baked version gives you everything you love about chicken wings without the deep-frying mess. Also, being baked makes them healthier but the sauce is so delicious, you won’t miss that part AT ALL!

Recipe:

STEP 1: Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

STEP 2: Cut up the chicken wings into drumettes or just make your life easier by getting the butcher to do it or by them already cut up.

STEP 3: Place chicken wings in a large bowl and sprinkle with baking powder, 1 teaspoon salt and pepper. Toss until all wings are covered.Chicken Wings in a glass bowlGlass Mixing Bowl

STEP 4: Line a baking sheet with foil and place a baking rack on top. Spray with a cooking spray. Place wings on the baking rack about 1″ apart from each other.Chicken Wings on a rackCooling Rack with Pan

STEP 5: Bake wings for 40-50 minutes, turning them over half way through.Cooked wings on panCooling Rack with Pan

STEP 6: While wings are baking, add orange marmalade, rice wine vinegar, orange zest, orange juice, sesame oil, soy sauce, red pepper, brown sugar. garlic, ginger and 1/2 teaspoon of salt to a saucepan.Pre-Cooked Sauce in PotAll-Clad Saucepan

STEP 7: Whisk to combine and let simmer of medium low heat for 15 minutes or so or until slightly thickened and reduced a bit. Stir frequently.Cooked Sauce in PotAll-Clad Saucepan / Pot Holder (old) (similar)

Sweet Orange Chili Chicken Wings

Adapted from My Recipes

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chicken wings cut in half
  • 1/2 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons salt divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes
  • 1/4 cup orange marmalade
  • 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger grated

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
