Red, White & Blue Homemade Marshmallows Recipe for Summer S’mores

4th of July is coming up and y’all know I love a theme for any occasion. Just add red, white & blue to anything and you’ve got all you need to celebrate this patriotic day. That is exactly what I did to make these 4th of July themed treats. Everyone loves a summer s’more, and homemade marshmallows just make them special and better. I took my basic vanilla marshmallow recipe, added some food coloring and just like that…I have an on-theme dessert for a fun Independence Day celebration.

You could easily add these colorful marshmallows to a S’mores Charcuterie Board and add some strawberries and blueberries to really bring home the theme for you July 4th party.

Red, White  & Blue Homemade Marshmallows for Homemade S'mores

Supplies You Need to Make Red, White & Blue Marshmallows:

Recipe Instructions:

STEP 1: Spray or butter a 9×9 inch pan and place plastic wrap in the pan. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. This makes it easy to take the marshmallows out.
STEP 2: Add 1/2 cup water to the bowl of a stand mixer. Sprinkle the 3 packets of gelatin over water and let stand.
STEP 3: Combine sugar, 1/4 cup water, salt and corn syrup in a saucepan and cook over medium heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Let cook until mixture reaches 238 degrees on a candy thermometer.

STEP 4: Once mixture reaches 238, immediately take it off the heat and pour over the gelatin while the mixer is on low. Turn the speed up to high and mix for 7-10 minutes, or until it’s doubled in size. Add vanilla and mix another minute.
STEP 5: Move half of the mixture to a separate bowl. Add a couple drops of red food coloring to one and a couple drops of blue to the other. Swirl mixtures lightly until the marbled effect appears and immediately pour into the prepared pans. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
STEP 6: Allow to sit for at least 4 hours or overnight.
STEP 7: Cut into squares and use these festive treats to make s’mores!

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
