12 Days of Christmas: Pom Pom Trees

Make these beautiful and modern Pom Pom Trees to add to your Christmas Decor this year! #diy #christmasdiy #pompomtrees #yarntrees

Last November I took a girls trip to the lovely Asheville, NC. We were able to tour the Biltmore while it was decorated for Christmas, which I highly recommend. In one of the gifts shops I discovered these yarn Pom Pom trees. I thought they were so cute, but also expensive!

My friends and I decided we could make them ourselves. So, naturally I came home and found a way.

For about 2 skeins of yarn, a cardboard cone and a glue gun. You can make these for the fraction of the cost.

SUPPLIES:

Cardboard cones
Yarn
Glue Gun or Super Glue
Pom Pom Makers (if you choose to use)
Scissors

INSTRUCTIONS:

STEP 1: Make Pom Poms. There are many methods for doing this. You can buy the Pom Pom makers I linked above. I found it easier to do the ol’ fork method.

For the fork methods:

  • Wrap a piece of yarn around the prongs of a fork. I wrapped it about 50 times. You can wrap less for smaller poms or more for bigger poms. Wrap it pretty tight. Cut the yarn and hold the wrap in place.

  • Take another piece of yarn, about 3-4 inches long, and thread it through the bottom of the fork from front to back. Pull it back to front and tie together.

  • Pull the wrap off the fork and pull the knot tighter and tie it off again.

Yarn ball

  • Now, take some good scissors and put them under the little loops that formed when pulling the knot. The Pom Pom will begin to form.

  • Go around and trim up extra long pieces to make the Pom Pom symmetrical.

STEP 2: Using a super glue or a glue gun (which I found to stick a little better), dab a small circle of glue on the bottom of the cone and tick a Pom Pom on top of glue. Hold it there for a few seconds and continue around the cone. Start the next row offset a bit from the first row. Continue until you cover the entire cone.

That’s it! They turned out exactly like the store version and were way cheaper to make. I will admit, they are a bit time consuming as it takes time to make the Pom-poms, but it’s totally worth it in the end
