Homemade Green Tea Matcha Ice Cream Recipe

Did you know July is National Ice Cream Month??? It’s a great excuse for eating ice cream ALL month, right? I LOVE making homemade ice cream. It’s such a fun memory from my childhood. I’ve come a long way since the days of making homemade vanilla in ol’ “crank-it-yourself” ice cream maker. I love trying new and fun recipes and channeling my inner Jeni’s. This year I wanted to try something really different and my Mini Matcha Doughnuts recipe is one of my most popular post, I decided to turn the flavors of this popular latte into a frozen yummy treat.

Recipe for Green Tea Matcha Latte Ice Cream:

STEP 1: Whisk the egg yolks and sugar together in a small bowl.
STEP 2: Add milk and vanilla to a saucepan and heat until it starts to lightly simmer.
STEP 3: Temper the egg mixture with the milk and return back to saucepan to cook until it reaches 170 degrees, stirring constantly.

STEP 4: Pour milk mixture into a large bowl and add matcha powder.
STEP 5: Stir until well mixed.
STEP 6: Add the heavy cream and stir.
STEP 7: Refrigerate overnight and churn ice cream according to ice cream makers manufacturers’ instructions.

Homemade Green Tea Matcha Ice Cream

Ingredients

  • 5 Large Egg Yolks
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons matcha powder
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Whisk the egg yolks and sugar together in a small bowl.
  2. Add milk and vanilla to a saucepan and heat until it starts to lightly simmer.
  3. Temper the egg mixture with the milk and return back to the saucepan to cook until it reaches 170 degrees, stirring constantly.
  4. Pour milk mixture into a large bowl and add matcha powder.
  5. Stir until well mixed.
  6. Add the heavy cream and stir.
  7. Refrigerate overnight and churn ice cream according the ice cream makers instructions.
