DIY Mini Present Ornaments

I learned how to make a box out of paper back in elementary school. You know how there are some things from childhood that just stuck with you and you remember forever. I guessI thought it was really cool that I could create an actual box out of paper. What was a simple craft turned into a lifelong DIY project for me. Take note, school teachers, some things you teach us really do stick with us! I decided to take my box making skills and create the cutest little mini present ornaments. And I am going to teach you how to, also. This is something you can do with your kids and bring in your own spin by choosing paper and ribbon that suits your tree and aesthetic.

Supplies:

12 x 12 Craft Paper or Cardstock (color and pattern of your choice)
Ribbon (color of your choice)
Scissors

Instructions:

STEP 1: Cut your 12×12 paper into 4 sections making 4-6″ squares.

STEP 2: Take one square and fold in half diagonally to make a crease.

STEP 3: Open folded paper and fold again (on both sides) where the tip of the paper touches the crease in the middle to create another crease in paper. (as shown below).

STEP 4: Open folded paper and fold again (on both sides) where the tip of the paper touched the new crease (as shown).

STEP 5: Rotate the paper and repeat this process on the other side. Your paper will be creased full of squares once you are complete.

STEP 6: Cut out the triangles formed by the creases on the edge of each side of the square.

STEP 7: Fold paper in half and cut a slit on tip (as shown below).

STEP 8: On the opposite side cut on slit from the other side (as shown below). Do this on all 4 points of paper.

STEP 7: Take a pair of scissors or butter knife and fold the corner squares on the patterned side of paper. Do this for all 4 corners. You will see how the box is starting to form.

STEP 8: Fold one of the ends that is cut from the outside.

STEP 9: Fold up the 2 opposite sides and pull the folded end into the slit on the opposite side. Unfold to secure and do the same thing on the opposite side to complete your box.
