I am back today with more DIY projects for your holiday season. Flocked decor got popular last year and I am still seeing it everywhere this year. I made these Flocked Easter eggs last spring to try this trend out, and it turned out super cute, so I decided I would try it on some ornaments this year since it’s still so popular. I love to DIY Christmas decor, because it can start getting really expensive to follow the trends each year. In this post, I’ll guide you through creating stunning flocked ornaments that were repurposed from some old ornaments I found in my stash and few other items. They will look so pretty on your Christmas tree.
See Below for Step x Step Instructions (including pictures) on how to make these DIY Flocked Ornaments!

- Spray Paint (color of your choice – used this Forest Green color because I am loving this hue for Christmas this year)
- All-Purpose Flour
- Baking Soda
- Pastry Brush

Step-by-Step Tutorial:
STEP 1: Mix together 1/2 cup all-purpose flour and 1/2 cup baking soda in a small bowl.
STEP 2: Spray paint your ornament.
STEP 3: Quickly sprinkle flour/soda mixture over your freshly painted ornament. You will want to do this 1 at a time as the mixture needs to adhere to wet paint.
STEP 4: Take a pastry brush and wipe off any excess flour mixture. If desired, go over with another light coat of spray paint.

Tips for Making Your Holiday DIY:
- Wear Gloves. You will have to hold the ornament in one hand while spray painting with the other. Unless you want a fully green hand, I recommend wearing gloves. You have to handle wet paint, so it is just better all together.
- Work Fast. You want to get the flour/soda mixture on pretty quickly as it has to adhere to wet paint.
- Get Creative. You could try this technique with so many different things. You could try different ornament shapes or nutcrackers or Christmas trees. The possibilities for festive flocked decor are endless!
These are seriously so easy to make and really elevate your Christmas decor. It allows you to add some of the trends without spending too much. I would love to see your creations. If you make your own DIY flocked ornaments, tag me on instagram, @dwellanddine!
