12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS: CLAY ORNAMENTS

I wanted to take a break from the recipes and for day 8 of “12 days of Christmas” I am showing you how to make some beautiful ornaments that look super fancy but are as easy as rolling out a batch or sugar cookies. I love trying to recreate ornaments I see at all my favorite home stores. There is a local pottery maker in town that makes the most beautiful ornaments (that I could never re-create), but it did inspire me to try something similar.

Affiliate links are used in my post. What does that mean? If you purchase through my link I will receive a small commission! However, I only ever recommend products/services that I absolutely LOVE and use myself! If you choose to support me through purchasing through my links allows me to continue to bring you info that you enjoy and hopefully use. So I thank you for any and all support.

WHAT YOU NEED:
clay – I used this one and this one
Side note: I used 2 kinds, oven baked and air dry – I wanted to see which worked better

Here’s the verdict: I like the smoothness of the oven baked, but the air dry dried more white. I ended up painting the oven baked white. So it was an extra step, but the clay seemed a little easier to work with…moving on
Cookie cutters – I bought these from Target
Stamps – I got these from Joann’s
Rolling pin
Craft paint – I used this one Martha Stewart brand

STEP 1: Roll clay out on a cutting board with a rolling pin.

STEP 2: Cut into any shape you desire. I had some Christmas cookie cutters, so I used those and also made some round ones.

STEP 3: It you want to add stamps or any decorations, so that now. Also, using a straw or toothpick, make holes to later put ribbon through to be able to hang the ornament.

STEP 4: Bake ornaments according to package directions (if using the oven baked kind) or allow to air dry (if using the air-dryed kind).

STEP 5: Once the ornament have been baked or dried, you can be done or you can paint or seal. I decided to paint the smaller shaped ornaments. I taped them off and then used gold craft paint to paint. I decided to fill in the lettering I stamped on the round ornaments to make the words pop. I just used a skinny sharpie.

STEP 6: Cut ribbon and tie through the holes of each ornament.

You can see I had a little helper!

How pretty did they turn out? My 2 year old wave helped me paint them. Let me know how you will decorate them below.
