I can’t believe my sweet baby girl is a one year old. She’s fully one, too: independent, walking like crazy and trying to carry on conversations full of gibberish. I can’t believe I have this little person we created to take care of. She is such a delight. Anyway…y’all didn’t come here to read me gush over my little lady.
I’ll be honest. I was secretly planning her 1st birthday party before she was even born. I started a secret board on Pinterest so people wouldn’t think I was totally crazy. I knew I wanted to have a big blow out… a huge party to celebrate my first born… the one who made me a mother. But, it wasn’t just a party for her; it was for Blake and me as well. A celebration for transitioning, as messy as it may have been, from being a married couple of 9 years to having our whole lives revolve around this helpless little child. It was also a party for all of our friends and family. If it wasn’t for the many random texts to friends in the middle of the night asking the best way to hold my child when she has gas, or the patience shown to me as I had all my mommy brain moments, my first year would have been really tough. The love and support shown to both Blake and me as we clumsily figured out this whole parenting thing was everything. We wanted to celebrate all of that, so naturally it had to be a huge event!
It was easy for me to come up with a theme as I looked through many Pinterest pages. I wanted it to be revolved around music as a tribute to her musician father and my desperate attempts to have her share the same love for music as we do. I also knew I wanted the colors to be white and gold (as a tribute to myself for those being my favorite colors). I also threw in peach, because I knew I needed a pop of color and she is a girl. Peach is a lovely color when you are not crazy about pink.
We started with booking a local art gallery because i wanted a modern open space for kids to run around and to set up tables for people to sit. That helped drive some of my many ideas and narrow down what we had room for and what we didn’t. Then, of course, the most important part of any party is “what food will I serve?” I knew I wanted to do a big dessert table, because that is just what I do and my specialty as I love to bake, so that was an easy thing to come up with. I also knew I didn’t want to make everything (really trying to get better about this) because I wanted to enjoy the day and not be stressed the whole week with baking and cooking. I wanted different types of desserts that could be held in different containers to make for a pretty table. Here is what we decided on:
DESSERT TABLE:
Cupcakes – It’s not a birthday party without cake. I decided on Peach with Peach buttercream (to go with the theme) and then Vanilla with a white chocolate buttercream (as a safe alternative that kids would enjoy)
Popsicle Sticks / Cupcake Liners
Pink Lemonade Macarons – because I like to make things hard on myself and they are so cute.
Toothpicks / Cupcake Liners / popcorn boxes / wood tray (spray painted gold) / 3-Tiered Stand
Salted Caramel Rice Krispie Treats – another staple for parties and dessert tables because you can make them any flavor, tint them with food coloring and cut them into any shape. I cut them into music notes. I got the most compliments on these.
Cake Plate / White Platter / Gold Box / Cookie Cutter / Cupcake Liners / Popsicle Sticks
Caramel popcorn – I wanted something I could buy and put in cute containers to add to the table. (click link for what I used)
Popcorn Boxes / Wood Tray (spray-painted gold) / 3-Tiered Stand
Peanut Butter Pretzel Muddy Buddies – I saw this recipe on Pinterest and knew it would be easy and I could make days in advance.
Cake Plate / Popsicle Sticks / Gold Cups / Music Note Hole Punch
Donut holes – Because donuts are my favorite and Krispy Kreme was brought to us from the good Lord above.
Popsicle Sticks / Music Note Hole Punch / Cake Plate / Toothpicks
Powdered donuts – Remember…donuts are my favorite and I knew i could display them in a cute way.
Toothpicks / White Platter / Music Note Hole Punch
See pics of the dessert table below and how I put the table together.
The party was at 10:00am, so no lunch or breakfast needed to be served which led to my decision to do a Snack Bar. I wanted kid-friendly (yet still loved by adults) snacks that I could package in a cute way. Here is what I decided on:
Wood Trays (Spray Painted Gold) / White Paper Bags / Clear Cups / Popcorn Boxes / Gold Stickers / Gold Striped Plastic Bags / Little Cups / Paper Mache Letters (Spray Painted Gold)
Boom Chicka Pop – White Cheddar Popcorn (click link to order)
Chex Mix – my husband’s favorite and so easy to make a homemade version. I always use this recipe when making the original.
Fruit cups – needed something healthy.
Wood Tray (Spray Painted Gold) / Clear Cups
Sweet Potato chips – needed a snack that had no cheese or dairy involved. I used Terra Sweet Potato chips.
Wood Tray (Spray Painted Gold) / White paper Bags (Cut in half) / Music Note Stamp / Clear Cups / Fabric for Runner / White Tablecloth
Homemade cheese crackers – I used this recipe. Seriously so quick and easy. I left out the cayenne since I knew kids would be eating these, too. I also cut them into squares and added a little circle indention in the middle to resemble Cheez-Its.
Wood Tray (Spray Painted Gold) / Litte Cups / Gold & Clear Striped Bags / Paper Mache Letters (spray painted gold)
I kept things easy with the Drink table:
Silver Tins (similar) / White Tablecloth / Honest Juice Boxes / Striped Paper (for water bottles) / Gold & White Striped Napkins / Paper Mache Letters (spray painted gold) / Drink Dispenser (old) (similar)

Gold Paper (for water bottles) / Gold & White Striped Napkins / Drink Dispenser (old, similar) / Fabric for runners / white tablecloth

silver tins (similar) / Honest Kids Juice Boxes / Gold Striped Paper (for water bottles) / fabric for runner

Quick shout out to my friend who owns Baked in Nashville. Go visit her website here. She made me this “smash cake” at the last minute when I decided I had taken on too much (as usual). I just told her colors and theme and she nailed it with this cake that fit in perfectly. It was so yummy, too. I may have snuck a bite.
