BISCUITS, YALL: THE EASY SOUTHERN BISCUIT

A couple years ago when Blake decided he wanted a biscuit bar at his 30th b-day party, I immediately started testing recipes. I knew I wanted a couple different types of biscuits with different toppings to go with them. I had to start, however, with a good ol’ southern biscuit we grew up on (this was for the southern food bar portion of his “Favorite Things” party. Read about it here) He wanted something to serve with his golden eagle syrup – this is what he grew up eating on a biscuit. I also thought I needed an easy one, too, since I would be making these right before the party started to ensure the freshest biscuits possible. ( I know, I am crazy and was much more ambitious back then) I came across this particular recipe and, yall, it is so easy and makes great biscuits. Annndddd…it only takes 3 ingredients! Sour cream, bisquick and Sprite or 7-Up. How easy is that??? If you are new to biscuit makin’, this is a good one to start with. I now make these all the time as I can whip them up so quickly.ingredients_Fotorclear bowls / biscuit cutter / pastry blender

First, measure out 2 cups of bisquick in a bowl. Add ½ cup sour cream and use a pastry blender (or 2 forks, or your hands) to “cut in” the wet ingredients.

Once it resembles lumpy cornmeal, stir in ½ cup 7-up until dough comes together. I mean, you cant get easier than that.

Once dough comes together, roll out on a floured surface until about 1 inch thick and cut out circles with a biscuit cutter, or round glass.

Melt about ¼ cup butter and put in the bottom of a round cake pan. Side note: I use foil in my pan for easy clean up.buttered pan 1

Then place biscuits on top and bake at 450 degrees for about 12-15 minutes. butter

When you pull them out of the oven, brush more melted butter on top while hot. (I never said this was diet food)biscuit1Enjoy!biscuits2
