Best Baby Gear for the Modern Mom

A Modern Mom's Guide to The Coolest Baby Gear That is Actually Useful!

I remember when Blake and I went to register for baby gifts when I was pregnant with Eden. I left Babies R’ Us in tears. I was overwhelmed by ALL THE THINGS. Is this mattress safe, will this swaddle suffocate my child? Will these bottles cause gas? Is this monitor going to be the clearest picture? Are these onesies going to irritate my precious baby’s sensitive skin?

I know. It’s all ridiculous. In hindsight, I can see that. But when your hormones are all over the place and your well designed home is about to be filled with all the nauseating baby colors you swore you would never do (because that bright pink one is the best product) and the moms on the internet will judge you if you get the wrong thing, you tend to get overwhelmed and question EVERY.SINGLE. THING. Mom Culture today is out of control, yall. That’s another story for another day…

BUT TODAY, I just want to share with you the things I TRULY used and that were TRULY helpful and also, actually beautiful and doesn’t make me want to throw it across the room due to its sheer ugliness. Ok. I know that is dramatic. My designer heart has trouble with these things. I am so thankful, however, that we have come a long way in the baby product world. A lot of small businesses created by MOMS have made some amazing and beautiful products that are actually useful, too.

See below for my Baby Gear NEEDS list and why it was helpful for me.

Affiliate links are used in my post. What does that mean? If you purchase through my link I will receive a small commission and it doesn’t change the price for you at all! However, I only ever recommend products/services that I absolutely LOVE and use myself or would use myself! If you choose to support me through purchasing through my links, it allows me to continue to bring you info that you enjoy and hopefully use. So I thank you for any and all support.

1. Solly Baby Wrap – I used this a lot with Eden. I used it a WHOLE lot with Ezra. Once you get the hang of tying it, it is such a necessity for having free hands especially when you have two little’s. Solly Baby makes the softest, prettiest wraps.

2. I like your Face Knit Baby Blanket – Ok. Do maybe you don’t NEED a baby blanket. I just think it’s cute.  It;s totally ok to wanna get some fun baby items that are completely impractical and just cute. What’s the harm in getting a few things just because you like them. There is none. The end. Also this would make a great gift.  –

3. Modern Burlap Muslin Swaddle Blankets – The Muslin blankets are a must. I probably wouldn’t wrap my child up in this at night, but if they are napping and you have their eyes on them, or you just want to wrap them up while you feed them, these are great. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Modern Burlap’s Scripture swaddles. They are so sweet and make great gifts, too.

4. Ryan & Rose Cutie Pat – I initially bought this because no one else carries a black pacifier. I mean, it’s just cool. Also, this is a paci on one side and a teether on the other. It’s kind of genius. I ended up following the founder on Instagram and have completely fallen in love with her and her company. She is such a sweet person who runs her business with real integrity. You should go to her website and look at all her many products. She has expanded into so many different products since starting out with paci clips. These paci’s come in every color imaginable and are super easy for your kiddos to pick up because of the innovative design.

5. Lou Lou Lollipop Trinity Silicone and Wood Teether – Your babies will put everything in their mouth and when they start teething, they will chew on EVERYTHING. Get yourself a couple of silicone or wood teethers like this one.

6. Ryan & Rose Rhett Cutie Clip – I clipped my kids pacis to them every time we were out in public. It makes like so much easier and keeps them from falling on the floor everywhere you go. I had this exact paci clip we had for Ezra (but in black) since it was more boyish.

7. Pottery Barn Kids Window Pane Swaddle Set – These are soooooooo good. They are cool, beautiful, gender neutral and on trend.

8. ezpz Mini Mat Happy Placemat – Y’all. There are no other baby plates you need. These are beautifully designed and WORK. They suction to the table, so not matter how hard my little boy tries to pick up his plate and throw it during a tantrum…he cannot. I love this Sage Green and this Gray!

9. ezpz Tiny Bowl Placemat – I love these little bowls, too. Isn’t it the cutest??

10. Ryan & Rose Baby Spoon & Fork – Here is another genius product from Ryan and Rose. You can use the spoon on one side to feed a younger baby purees and they can use the fork side when they start to eat solid foods. The design is great for scooping and stabbing food. These also come in a lot of great colors. You can get these basic colors on Amazon but check out her website for more color options.

11. Chewable Charm Avery Teething Bracelet – I still wear this, even though both my kids have outgrown it. I love a product that can be used beyond its initial use.

12. Animal Bath Wraps – You have to dry your kids off., you might as well do it with something cute. Ezra has the Raccoon one and looks super cute running down the hall with this towel on his head.

13. Ryan & Rose Maxi Pacifier Clip Marble Charley –This marble paci clip is so pretty and if I had another girl, I would get this.

14. Boon Lawn Drying Rack – You need somewhere to dry all those bottles, sippy cups, paci’s, etc. I think every mom in American has this and there is a reason for it.

15. Fawn Design Diaper Bag Backpack – I think a backpack is essential. I tried a shoulder bag with my first, but it really isn’t practical while carrying a child. I have the Fawn and LOVE it. I think Freshly Picked and Honest have nice ones too.

16. Petunia Pickle Bottom Nimble Diaper Clutch – I am a sucker for anything leopard and a changing mat is a must for your diaper bag. You never know where you will end up having to change your precious ones diaper.

17. Emily & Meritt “Love” Boppy Nursing & Infant Support Pillow & Slipcover – You definitely need one of these. They are great for arm support whether you are nursing or bottle feeding your child. You would be surprised how heavy those tiny babies can be when they are laying in your arms. Also they are great teaching tummy time and for serving as a support when your child is trying to sit up. I “love” this slipcover from Pottery Barn Kids. See what I did there.

18. Puj Tub – We got this with Eden and loved it. It’s so nice to stick in any sink and clean your newborn. You will only use it for a few months, but it’s inexpensive and definitely needed.

19. Comotomo Baby Bottles – These are my favorite bottles. They are soft which is different than any bottle and is closely resemble a breast. They also have a cool design and are easy for my kiddos to grab on to.

20. Marpac Hushh Portable White Noise Machine – We bought this when we had Ezra in the bassinet in our room since Eden still used our other one in their room. We have loved how small and portable it is. We can move it from room to room easily and it’s so great to travel with.

21. The Emily & Merritt Activity Gym – I had this exact one for Eden and we got so much use out of it. Anytime you put the baby down in those first few months, it’s great to put them on a mat with something they can look at or try to swat at.

22. Ubbi Diaper Pail – You gotta have one of these unless you want your house to stink. We have been really pleased with this one and you can get any trash bag for it.

23. Burp Cloths – Unless you’re a fan of spit-up stained clothes…these are just necessary. I own these B&W ones and love them.

24. Copper Pearl Multi Use Cover – These are great when you want to take your little one shopping or to a restaurant during a nap time. It can also be used for a nursing cover and shopping cart cover. Multi-uses for the WIN!

25. Copper Pearl Bandana Bibs – These are the softest bibs with endless amounts of designs.

26. Fridababy Nose Frida – As much as it pains me to say this and as much as I fought against it for a long, long time…this is a MUST. It still grosses me out. I make my husband do it most of the time. But it works better than anything else. Put it on your registry. You just have to.

27. Chewbeads Skinny Charles Bangle Teething Bracelet – I love these bracelets. They look like bracelets I might wear anyway and knowing there is something that I can quickly hand my crying baby without digging through my diaper bag is the best.

28. SwaddleMe Original Swaddle – These are a LIFE SAVER! I love a beautiful soft swaddle blanket for wrapping my kid up in. But at night, you MUST have these. The Velcro makes getting out of these extremely difficult so there is no worry about your little Houdini totally unwrapping it and being tangled in a blanket mess or getting it wrapped around their precious face. I used every stage of them. These are great for getting their arms tightly tucked away and secure. I moved to the next level when they started rolling and needed their arms loose, too. I love this neutral set that can be used for boys or girls! –
