It’s January. The Holidays are over. We are all trying to start a fresh new year. But….does putting up the Christmas decorations make you a little sad? It’s all so pretty and magical and then you take it all down and you home suddenly feels empty. Even though our house is like this 11 months out of the year, once you pack it full of sparkly decorations, it tends to be a feel a bit bare once they are all packed away. It’s also still a little too early to decorate for Easter or even Valentine’s day.
Today, I am going to show you how to “Winterize Your Home”. Now, I am not talking about wrapping pipes and sealing windows. I actually mean how to decorate for this cold season we are in. Let’s be honest, when the weather gets cold, we don’t want to leave the house much. See below for steps to help you decorate for winter that will make you never want to leave the house.

Nicole Pom Blanket – Able ($98)
I love this black and white throw. It’s cozy and chic with its addition of pom poms. Also, it’s from an ethical brand that empowers and employs women as a solution to end poverty. While you’re purchasing your blanket, make sure you read all about it.
STEP 2: Add Rich Textures
Heavy Fabrics and textures are perfect for winter. They just seem cozier and warmer. Throw in some Velvet Pillows or a Flannel Bedspread to freshen up your space. Or, switch out some stools or benches with faux fur ones. It will feel new and fresh, but still winter-y and cozy.

Its modern. It’s geometric. It’s classic.
Allium Chunk Yarn Pillow – CB2 ($49.95)

Snowflake Embroidered Toss Pillow – Target ($21.24)
This Winter-themed pillow will be a great addition to your winter décor.

Faux Sheepskin Natural Nathan Upholstered Ottoman – World Market ($314.99)
The cutest little foot stool to add to your living room for some great texture to your winter design.
STEP 3: Candles
Stock up on candles. The days are shorter during the winter months and candlelight just brings a romance to dinners or movie night. While they may not provide a ton of actual warmth, the smells you choose can really set a mood, and just gives the illusion of warmth. Break out those candles you got as Christmas gifts or see below for some other great ones that I love.
No. 25 Winter Fir Scented Candle – Nordstrom ($36)
When you want to enjoy to scents of the outdoors, but from the comfort and warmth of your living room.
Apotheke – Pur 3 Wick Candles – West Elm ($64)
Apotheke’s Pur Collection is designed with scents to cleanse and purify your home. What better way is there to renew your space for the new year.
Hearth & Hand Jarred Candle – Target ($12.99)
This woodsy scented candle would create the perfect cozy atmosphere this winter.
STEP 4: Fireplace Accessories
Now for something that will actually keep you warm…build a fire! Make sure you are stocked up on fireplace accessories. See below for some beautiful, yet functional things that can not only decorate your home and be pretty (who doesn’t love to look at pretty things), but can actually come in handy when the mood for a fire strikes you.
Graphic Fireplace Tools – West Elm ($199)
I’m a big believer in functional items being pretty, too. These art-deco inspired tools are both of these things.
Chuck Log Holder – CB2 ($99.95)
The coolest way to hold your firewood.
Woven Seagrass Log Basket – West Elm – ($54.99)
I love this natural, yet modern log basket.
3 Piece Bryn Marble Fireplace Tool – CB2 ($229)
The Marble. That is all.
STEP 5: Pretty Mugs
Winter calls for ALL the hot drinks. Whether you are drinking a latte, hot chocolate or hot tea, who doesn’t love a pretty mug to drink it out of. Make sure to stock up for all the hot drinks you plan to partake in during these cold days.
Mystic Gold Espresso Cup – CB2 ($7.99)
Super Chic Mugs.
Homebody Mug – Anthropologie ($14)
The perfect mug to use on a cold winter night.

This mug has a gold rim and that is reason enough to add it to any list.
STEP 6: Indoor Plants
Winter has us staying indoors more often, but some of us are really craving the outdoors. Sometimes, you just need some fresh air. Make sure to fill you home with lots of indoor plants that can thrive with low light. They will be sure to liven up the space and get us through until spring. See below for some of my favorite:
Peace Lily – Lulu & Georgia ($82)
VERY low maintenance and actually needs to dry out, so forgetting to water is no big deal.
Peacock Plant – ($9.99)
Grows in medium to low light and requires consistent moisture, so keep this one watered.
Snake Plant – The Sill ($45)
A classic indoor plant that looks fresh even with weeks of neglect.
Chinese Evergreen – Amazon ($53.99)
