I recently was able to throw a baby shower for a dear friend and her soon-to-be little boy. I had seen some parties on Pinterest with the Star theme and had been wanting to put my own spin on it. Stars are such a great thing to decorate with. Not only are there a lot of great options out there in the party decor world with stars as a element, but there are so many way to implement this shape in food and DIY decor. Plus, it is one of those classic and timeless Nursery Rhymes that will probably be one of the first songs your little one will sing.
OK, Let’s talk details. It is so easy to make a star banner. Even easier if you have a Cricut. Side note: I can not even begin to tell you how much time I save with these parties owning a Cricut. I used to hand cut everything and now this machine does everything for me in half the time. Moving on…I used my Cricut to cut out big stars for a banner, smaller stars for cupcake toppers and more to use as confetti. I created signage by designing an image, creating a template with the Cricut and painting them onto plywood boards. I also bought star stickers to add a special touch to cups. There are SO MANY great ways to add those details to create the cutest party.

The Menu:
Now, let’s talk food. Coming up with a menu is one of my favorite things to do for a party. I probably err on the side of too much food, but it is just what I do. I am Southern. It is what WE do. You really have an opportunity to bring in the theme with the party food here. There are so many things you can cut into star shapes. I also wanted to try and represent the color theme into the food. I tried to keep with the gold/white color combo. See below for my menu:
Food:
- Homemade Cheese Crackers – I used this recipe and cut with this star cookie cutter.
- Star-Shaped Tortilla Crackers
- Star Shaped Cinnamon Sugar Tortilla Chips with Fruit Salsa – I used this recipe for the Cinnamon Sugar Tortilla Chips and used this Cookie Cutter to cut into stars.
- Salted Caramel Budino – I used this recipe. The caramel provides a perfect golden color.
- Chocolate & Vanilla Cupcakes with White Icing – I used this recipe for the chocolate cupcakes with a basic vanilla buttercream.
- Rice Krispie Treats – I use this recipe as it is my GO-TO Recipe for Rice Krispie treats. I make these all the time for parties, because, once again, you can cut them into any shape! I used this cookie cutter to cut them into stars.
- White Chocolate & Salted Caramel Star Pops – I used a star mold and Girardelli White Chocolate Melting Wafers for the white chocolate pops and these candy melts for the salted caramel.
- Cheeseboard – Because every party needs one. See here to see a step x step guide on putting one together.
Drinks:
- Hot Chocolate with Star-shaped Marshmallows – I used this recipe and used this cookie cutter.
- Coffee
- Water
