It’s that time of year to buy all your favorite candy and fill up those Easter baskets!! I know this can be controversial, but Peeps are some of my favorite Easter Candy. My husband HATES them. In fairness, he doesn’t love marshmallows.
Today, I’m showing you how to make HOMEMADE peeps that will win over even the most Peep-hating person (looking at you, husband).

WHAT YOU NEED:
Cookie cutters or mold – I have collected cookie cutters over the years, so I don’t remember where I got the exact ones I have but I have posted links to some good options below:
1. Amazon – Here is one that is the same shape as store-bought peeps. These are similar to the ones I used for the chick.
Sanding sugar – I got mine off amazon. You can get the same here or these are also a good option, but you can buy sanding sugar at any grocery store. I really wanted more of a pastel color, so I ordered these. Sur La Table has some good options here, too!
STEP 1: Make up a batch of homemade marshmallows. You can see my recipe here. Instead of using powdered sugar to create a non-stick surface for the marshmallows, I just used used cooking spray. I covered the top with a piece of plastic wrap covered in cooking spray instead of the powdered sugar. This is an important step for making the peeps so your sanding sugar will stick properly.
STEP 2: Remove your marshmallows to a cutting board. Spray a cookie cutter with cooking spray and cut out shapes.

STEP 3: Dip your marshmallows into sanding sugar. They are naturally sticky. Normally I would dip in powdered sugar to use for regular marshmallows. The sanding sugar should stick pretty easily. If it’s not sticking for some reason, just brush with a tiny bit of water. Set aside.

STEP 4: Melt chocolate chips in microwave for 30 second intervals until melted.
STEP 5: Dip a toothpick or skewer into the melted chocolate and lightly dab onto the peep to create the eye.
How cute are these?? The taste and texture is so much better than the store-bought version (and I love the store-bought ones).
