2020 is turning out to be quite the year. I don’t know about you, but I am ready for it to be O-V-E-R. While I am totally over being home almost 24/7, it is giving me time to get my craft skills on. And let’s be honest, keeping busy is keeping me sane. My extroverted self is not cut out for being at home all….the…..time. I have had the weeks where I moped around and spent way too much time on social media. I’ve wasted too many hours and day watching Real Housewives of whatever city and netflix. Now, sometimes it is necessary to rest and lose yourself in the fantasy world, but the more I moped, I just felt more sad for our current state.
Doing something productive definitely make me feel better and more purposeful. Seeing something beautiful and even useful come from sitting down and creating something with my hands has been so rewarding. My latest DIY are these natural modern jute coasters. We are seeing these natural elements a lot these days and I think it’s mostly because it fits into any style. I love adding natural elements to my modern decor to balance things out. They can also go more rustic or even beachy.
Can you buy these at most stores? Yes. But, see paragraph above. Making your own coasters feels so rewarding (plus it’s cheaper)!! Bring some natural texture to your tablescape by creating these coasters. Plus, you can tell everyone they are ‘hand-crafted’ which will make you seem fancy!

Affiliate links are used in my post. What does that mean? If you purchase through my link I will receive a small commission and it doesn’t change the price for you at all! However, I only ever recommend products/services that I absolutely LOVE and use myself or would use myself! If you choose to support me through purchasing through my links, it allows me to continue to bring you info that you enjoy and hopefully use. So I thank you for any and all support.
Jute String // Scissors // Glue Gun
Supplies:
Instructions:
STEP 1: Start by taking the end of the string and placing some hot glue on one side of the string, about 1 inch long.
STEP 2: Start to wrap in a coil and hold so the glue can dry. It will only take about 20-30 seconds for the glue to dry.
STEP 3: Once you have the center started, continue to place hot glue on the string and continue to wrap (about 1-2 inches at a time.
STEP 4: Once you get the size you want, cut the string and hot glue the edge.
Side note: Be careful not to burn your fingers with hot glue. You may want to wear gloves if you desire.
It’s not rocket science, but very easy and a little bit cathartic while wrapping. You will have really cool usable coasters at the end of a fun DIY project.
